If there is one thing eighteen-year-old Aurora Sky wants, it’s to get off the iceberg she calls home. Being kissed before she graduates wouldn’t hurt either.

Then a near-fatal car wreck changes everything. Government agents step in and save Aurora’s life in exchange for her services as a vampire hunter. In Alaska. Basically she’s a glorified chew toy. All thanks to her rare blood type, which sends a vampire into temporary paralysis right before she has to finish the job… by hand.

Now Aurora’s only friends are groupies of the undead and the only boy she can think about may very well be a vampire. And if he’s a vampire, will she be forced to kill him?

The Trailer

The Excerpt

There was an electronic crackle, and a voice filled the room. “Welcome to initiation, Aurora. This test will last as long as you want”

I wanted out of this insane asylum. I rushed to the door and tried yanking down the silver handle, but it didn’t budge.

I turned. My eyes raced over every square inch of the enclosed room. There was a metal table in the very center. I walked up to it and looked down at the weapons laid on top: a handgun, crossbow, hunting knife, ax, and wooden stake.
The intercom crackled back to life.

“Once the subject has fed on your blood you will need to choose a weapon and finish him off.”

“What? No! I’m not killing anyone. Melcher? Let me out of here.”

“Now!” I screamed.

“Good luck, Aurora.”

I expected something horrible to occur after he signed off, but nothing happened.

I circled the table and kept glancing at the door. Trapped inside a windowless room with weapons that made my skin crawl. Fantastic. There wasn’t even a clock to track the minutes dragging by. If they planned on keeping me locked up for so long they could’ve at least put a chair inside.

I folded my arms over my chest and looked at the two-way mirror.

“What’s the matter with Dracula? Can’t find his cape?” I chuckled, but it sounded nervous.

I walked over to the far corner of the room and leaned my back against the wall.

There was a hollow knock at the door across the room. It pounded three times in succession, producing an eerie, drawn-out echo.

I wanted to crack a joke, but something didn’t feel right. My heart pounded its way up to my throat and I’d barely swallowed when the door flew open. A middle-aged man in flannel was thrown in. The door slammed shut behind him. He nearly fell on the floor, but caught himself. Long greasy hair covered his face as he bent forward. When he righted himself, I saw that his cheeks were sunken, lips bared over yellow teeth. He snarled and spit leaked out the corners of his mouth.

I stood up straight.

Book Blitz and Giveaway: The Boys of Summer by C.J. Duggan

BoysofSummerBlitzBanner

I just read The Boys of Summer and I loved it! I’m so glad I get to be a part of this blitz because I get to share an excerpt, give away an ebook copy right here and also have the tour-wide entry form for a signed copy. I’ve always wanted to visit Australia (not only to stalk a certain someone!) and books like this, by authors like this, make me feel like I’ve had just a tiny taste. If you don’t win it, go buy it!!

The Boys of Summer coverThe Boys of Summer (Summer #1)
By C.J. Duggan

Self-Published
Publication Date: December 17, 2012
Genre: New Adult Contemporary Romance

It seemed only natural to nickname them the ‘Onslow Boys’. Every time they swaggered in the front door of the Onslow Hotel after a hard week’s work, their laughter was loud and genuine as they settled onto their bar stools. I peeked through the restaurant partition, a flimsy divider between my world and theirs. I couldn’t help but smile whenever I saw them, saw him … Toby Morrison.

Quiet seventeen-year-old Tess doesn’t relish the thought of a summertime job. She wants nothing more than to forget the past haunts of high school and have fun with her best friends before the dreaded Year Twelve begins.
To Tess, summer is when everything happens: riding bikes down to the lake, watching the fireworks at the Onslow Show and water bomb fights at the sweltering Sunday markets.

How did she let her friends talk her into working?

After first-shift disasters, rude, wealthy tourists and a taunting ex-boyfriend, Tess is convinced nothing good can come of working her summer away. However, Tess finds unlikely allies in a group of locals dubbed ‘The Onslow Boys’, who are old enough to drive cars, drink beer and not worry about curfews. Tess’s summer of working expands her world with a series of first times with new friends, forbidden love and heartbreaking chaos.

All with the one boy she has never been able to forget.

It will be a summer she will always remember.

Warning: sexual references, and occasional course language.

I’m even going to give you a setup to the excerpt this time…

Tess has just won a bet, ensuring Toby has to do a couple of things that will keep him around her from time to time over the summer, at least until he gets her bike fixed (he’s a mechanic and it’s a minor problem). It’s still very early in the book and Tess is normally a very shy, reserved girl who’s had a crush on Toby for years. Let’s just say this excerpt will be very important for something later on in the story (it’s not the obvious thing – ha, you’ll have to read it). :)

The Excerpt

Moon rays filtered through the windshield, giving the cabin an otherworldly glow.

Toby’s perfect teeth were illuminated when he smiled. “You know, you are the worst winner!” He shook his head. “Ever since you won the bet, you’ve been apologising. Just go with it, enjoy it, because I assure you, next time …” – he leaned closer – “… you will not be the winner.” He pulled back, smug.

I curved a brow. “Next time?”

He nodded. “I fully intend to redeem myself.”

“Want a chance to rebuild your shattered ego, do you? I bet you’re itching to fix my bike so you can be rid of me once and for all.” I shouldered him gently, teasing him as I would Adam. And then I realised what I had done; I had treated him like my friends. He looked down at his shoulder, then up at me. His eyes shadowed with untold meanings that I couldn’t read.

“What if I didn’t want to fix your bike?” he said in all seriousness.

“Why, is my company so stimulating that you can’t bear the thought of being without me?” I teased nervously.

I was aiming for light and airy, but something must have gone wrong with my delivery because Toby’s face went blank. He looked out into the lights of Onslow, ran his tongue over his bottom lip and sighed.

Oooh shiver, shiver. Toby is a very complicated guy and poor Tess – Tess can be out of her league with him sometimes.

If you’d like to win an ebook of The Summer Boys, I have one to give away (open to Int’l entries) and tour-wide, there’s a giveaway for one signed paperback copy and for five winners of five signed bookmarks. Good luck!

The Excerpt

Summer had given way to the harvest season, but the nighttime temperatures rarely dipped lower than the daytime ones. It was unseasonably warm for this time of year, but neither Max nor I complained as we lay stretched out on our backs, staring up at the spectral clouds – apparitions suspended in the black sky above us, allowing the moon only the briefest glimpse of the earth below.

Even though the light from my skin was fading, my encounter with Angelina the night before made me the brightest thing out here.

But at least in the garden I could hide myself. The space within the hedged walls was quite possibly the most peaceful place in the world, and the two of us found ourselves existing among the shrubbery and flowers and fountains and pathways more often than not, whispering secrets of what was and what would be, and of all the things we wished for. Yet more and more often, I found my mind wandering to other things, even when – like now – I watched Max’s lips moving.

Things like Sabara, and what she wanted from me.

Max stopped talking and shifted onto his side, propping up on one elbow as he stared down at me. His eyes were nearly as dark as the midnight sky and just as cloudy. “Did you hear anything I just said, Charlie?”

I turned my attention to him, shaking away thoughts of the dead queen as I rolled in the soft grass beneath us and leaned up so we were eye to eye. My mouth curved devilishly, yet I shrugged as guilelessly as I could manage. I knew exactly what I was doing. “No, but I’m sure it was eloquent and well thought-out. Bordering on brilliant, I’d wager.”

The corner of his mouth ticked up, ever so slightly. “I don’t suppose it would do any good to repeat myself, would it?”

“Probably not.” I looked away from him, staring up at the sky once more. The clouds had shifted, parting to create a vaporous tunnel through which the full moon shone, throwing dazzling threads of light along the clouds’ edges.

“You can’t avoid the topic forever, Charlie. You’ll tire before I do,” he argued. A point he’d tried to make a thousand times before. One I had no problem rebuking.

“Of course I can. I’ll just keep pretending I didn’t hear you.”

Silver splinters flickered in Max’s charcoal eyes, similar to the silver of his brother’s eyes. His hand shot out to brace the back of my neck and his teeth flashed white in the pale light of the moon as he leaned closer. I could feel his breath before I realized his lips were brushing mine. Not kissing, just feathering over them. Reminding my body – and everyone with eyes – what Max was capable of doing to me.

Beneath my skin, light exploded. Tiny bursts that fragmented the darkness around us, igniting like lighting storms. Inside, the same things were happening to me, only no one could see those detonations, the ones that curled my toes and made my breath catch in the back of my throat.

“Eventually you’ll hear me,” Max whispered against my mouth, in answer to my intentional snub. “And eventually you’ll agree to be my wife.”

The 12 Days of Magic Tour and Giveaway with Nikki Jefford

‘Tis the season to be giving and Nikki Jefford has the fever! She’s been running her own giveaways on her blog (you have to check those out, see the links to that in her bio) and now there’s a multi-blog tour featuring her Spellbound trilogy-themed giveaway with some extra goodies (including chooocolate). I also have some fun playlists Nikki put together for all three books and I swear, even though there are sort of oldies involved, I had nothing to do with them.

Two months after dying, seventeen-year-old witch Graylee Perez wakes up in her twin sister Charlene’s body.

Until Gray finds a way back inside her own body, she’s stuck being Charlene every twenty-hour hours. Her sister has left precise instructions on how Gray should dress and behave. Looking like a prep isn’t half as bad as hanging out with Charlene’s snotty friends and gropey boyfriend.

The “normals” of McKinley High might be quick to write her behavior off as post-traumatic stress, but warlock Raj McKenna is the only person who suspects Gray has returned from the dead.

Now Gray has to solve the mystery of her death and resurrection and disentangle herself from Charlene’s body before she disappears for good.

If Graylee Perez thought sharing a body with her twin sister was bad, dealing with a duplicate of herself is two times worse. Gray the second doesn’t seem to get that Lee’s boyfriend, Raj McKenna, is off limits. Then there’s the problem of Adrian Montez. He expects one of the Grays to be his.

Nearly a year later, the council is onto them for past misdeeds; Lee, along with the rest of the coven, has lost control of her powers; and Gray is being stalked by what looks like the Grim Reaper.

If they work together, they may stand a chance of setting things right and making it out alive.

Purchase the Spellbound series:

Spellbound Series Soundtrack

Entangled (S1)
Magic Dance by David Bowie from Labryinth

This song has haunted my brain throughout the series. Plus David Bowie reminds me of warlock Adrian Montez minus the 80’s hair and tight pants…well, let’s keep the tight pants.

Lightning by The Wanted

Raj McKenna steals the show in Entangled. He is the ultimate bad boy with a good heart, and fiercely loyal to Gray. I stumbled upon this YouTube video and have watched it at least a dozen times all while thinking of Raj. Yeah, baby!

Duplicity (S2)

Within You and As the World Falls Down by David Bowie from Labyrinth

Adrian’s obsession with Gray reminds me of the Goblin King’s fixation on Sarah. At the end of book one Adrian risks his own life to ensure she doesn’t disappear. In book two his feelings intensify, but are harshly rejected. Sorry, Adrian, you have no power over Gray.

Bad Romance by Lady Gaga

The confusion spell Gray puts over Adrian requires her to speak gibberish the entire time. She starts singing “Rah, rah, ah, ah, ah; Roma, roma, ma; Gaga, ooh, la, la,” then accidently busts into the Bad Romance lyrics. (I watch this one just so I can a) pretend I can do that dance and b) laugh at those shoes. ~Barbara)

Enchantment (S3)

Barcelona by Giulia y Los Tellarini from the Vicky Christina Barcelona soundtrack

Love is in the air. Gray heads to Barcelona for the summer, meets the sexy Spaniard Carlo, wards off the attentions of the polite British Will, runs into Adrian and unwittingly falls head over heels for her arch nemesis. It’s all good fun!

Les Triplettes de Belleville from the French animation movie soundtrack

Charlene nabs herself a new body in Paris, shows up in Spain, much to Gray’s annoyance, and requests her help dealing with a stalker. I like to call this one The “Twins” of Belleville.

How does it all end? Find out Spring of 13!

Oh, there are still goodies to come but I’m going to make you work for it. :) Well, your finger, anyway. Giveaways and more ahead, just Read More!

Release Day Blitz for Mia’s Heart by Courtney Cole: Excerpt and Giveaway

By Courtney Cole

Publisher: Lakehouse Press
Publication Date: December 1, 2012
Genre: Young Adult Contemporary

My name is Mia Giannis.
I am seventeen years old.
I live in Valese, Caberra.

This has become my mantra and my lifeline, having recently lost my memory due to a scary natural disaster.
Yeah. I have amnesia. Messed up, right?

You don’t know the half of it.

Not remembering anything has turned my world upside down. My parents try their hardest to “remind” me of who I was, but it doesn’t feel right. Or, if what they’re saying is true and that really was me, I’m not sure I like that person very much.

And then there’s my love life. Apparently, Gavin Ariastasis is my oldest and best friend in the world. Also, apparently, we’ve never dated. But now, noticing him for what feels like the first time, he’s making my heart do somersaults. He knows me inside and out—the real me. Plus, he’s sexy and charming as hell. Sounds perfect, right?

But then… there’s the new guy. Quinn McKeyen – tall, gorgeous and deliciously American. His mischievous grin and slow Midwestern drawl turn my insides to mush in two seconds flat making me question who I really am and what I really want.

Seriously. What am I supposed to do with all that?! I feel torn between them, but I barely even know who I am, let alone what I want.

I just hope my indecisive heart will clue me in. And sooner rather than later…before I lose what little of my mind that I have left.

“Would you like to dance?” I ask Quinn.

He stares at me hesitantly.

“What?” I cajole him. “The big brawny cowboy can ride a bull but can’t dance?”

And now he rolls his eyes.

“Is that a challenge?”

“Does it seem like a challenge?” I ask innocently.

He sighs and grabs my hand. “Come on, tiny tot.”

I smile victoriously as he leads me onto the polished dance floor. The crystal chandeliers sparkle above us and servers in black-tails and white gloves sail through the crowds with trays of champagne.

Quinn pulls me to him and we smoothly dance around the ball room floor. I look up at him.

“You’re a surprise,” I admit. “I figured you couldn’t dance.”

But then again, I figured he didn’t own a pair of dress shoes, either. He’s sexy as hell tonight in a tux and polished black loafers. What is it about a tuxedo that can make a boy go from handsome to movie star hot in two seconds flat? My heart flutters as Quinn grins at me crookedly.

And that’s another thing. My heart has been doing a lot of fluttering lately, mostly over this crooked grin of his.

“I can most certainly dance,” he tells me needlessly. And I say needlessly because he is demonstrating that fact right now. He can most certainly dance.

His arms feel really good wrapped around me. I almost sigh because this moment feels pretty perfect. The music is soft and soothing, Quinn is handsome and strong, and I am pressed against his strong chest. He smells delicious. I could go and on about why this moment rocks.

But unfortunately, it doesn’t keep rocking.

Because as I look up, I see Gavin. He is standing casually with Dante and Dimitri, with a champagne glass dangling loosely from his fingers at his side. He is the picture of casual elegance—as if tuxedos were invented to be worn by him. But I’m not distracted by how handsome he is. Because the look on his face startles me.

He’s upset.

With me.

That is apparent. I stare into his dark eyes and he looks pointedly away. And he stays looking away. He doesn’t glance back at me. My stomach sinks like a rock.

“Is something wrong?” Quinn asks, as he stares down at me. I shake my head.

“No. I mean, yes. Maybe.”

He stares at me again, his blonde eyebrows furrowed as he tries to figure me out.

“I’ll be back, okay?”

He nods and releases my hand and I scamper through the crowd to get to Gavin. But when I reach the spot where he was, he isn’t there anymore.

“Mia!” I hear Reece call to me. I gaze around and find her in the crowd and she is gesturing wildly toward something behind me. I turn and see Gavin disappearing into a hall. I’m after him like a shot.

I call out for him, but he doesn’t stop.

So, I do the only thing I can think of to do.

I chase him.

I have no idea how he manages to stay so far ahead of me when I am running and he is walking. It’s like something out of a bad horror movie. I just can’t seem to catch up. I trip along in my heels until I finally get smart enough to take them off. And then I trip along after him barefoot.

But finally, he takes pity on me.

As he reaches a door that opens to the outdoors, he turns. He is tall and lithe and handsome and he doesn’t want to be with me. That much is apparent.

“What do you need, Mia?” And he sounds weary.

I’m confused.

“Why are you running from me?”

He smiles a small, tight smile.

“I’m not running. I’m walking. You’re short enough that you have to run to keep up.”

“Details,” I sniff. “Why wouldn’t you stop?”

“Because I don’t want to talk to you right now,” he answers simply. And that answer hurts. Because out of everyone in my life, Gavin has always been there for me.

“Why?” I ask softly.

“Because,” he shrugs. “I don’t want to right now.”

“But why?” I demand. “You have to have a reason.”

“Because I just realized something,” he says. And his voice is cool and his eyes are a bit sad. It makes me apprehensive and scared to ask. But of course I ask anyway.

“What did you realize?”

Gavin is quiet as he stares at me. And the serious and slightly sad expression on his face scares me because I have never seen it before.

“What?” I blurt out. “What is wrong with you? What did you realize?”

Gavin sighs.

“I realized that you have never looked at me like you were looking at Quinn just now. And you probably never will.”

Ah, that has you thinking a bit. I know I was. I wanted to give Gavin a hug and tell him that Quinn doesn’t have anything on him. *sniff* So now you want to read it, right? Well, you can win a signed copy of the first book in the series, Dante’s Girl (and you know, fly out and buy this one *cough*). Just fill in the Rafflecopter form, simple, simple!

Good luck. :)

Mitzie wore a black robe like that of Seronus. Her hand clenched a tall metal spear with red gems encircling the tip and her eyes glowed like two crystal balls.

“Umm…Mitzie, what’s going on?”

I made toward her but Jesse gripped my arm. The sting in his eyes confirmed what my instincts had been telling me.

“Don’t. She’s not your friend.”

A gruesome laughter echoed in the air as Mitzie mocked us. “Friend? Your blood will seal my allegiance to Thorus. And by the way, it’s Mahla.”

“What a complete 180 from the shy and sweet girl who loved Art. I didn’t sense it at all because you’re not a natural like us. You’ve been bought, a wannabe rewarded for her servitude.”

“Jerk, I’ll show you just what this wannabe can do.” Mitzie or Mahla lifted her spear from the ground and pointed it toward the sky; flames began flowing around it like a tornado.

She aimed her spear at me, but seeing as though my power had abandoned me somehow, Jesse shoved me out of the way and stopped her attack with his own powerful fireballs.

The extent of his force surprised me greatly. Mine was nothing compared to the magnitude that flowed from his body. He could tap into the flames easily and use it at will, while I struggled.

Mahla threw herself about flawlessly, shooting flames from her spear at every given chance. Jesse intensified his attacks, seeing as though she wouldn’t let up.

Their power created tremors whenever it collided. Mahla’s anger fueled her determination; she grew impatient with her failed attempts at destroying me. I took in Jesse’s fight stance: he stood firmly in the same spot with his back turned to me, guarding me. He really cared about me.

Finally, Mahla paused and shielded herself behind her force field. She glared down at me and squinted, her eyes consumed with both hate and disappointment. Jesse gathered up huge balls of fire and sent them all at once toward her shield. The force field exploded in luminous light, but once it dispersed, Mahla was nowhere in sight.

Jesse turned and lowered his hand to help me to my feet. I ignored it and stood on my own.

“You killed her?” I whispered, uncertain if I was saddened or relieved.

Author Spotlight

Shane Morgan is a lover of “interesting” books. Her imagination is always running wild so it’s best to collect and organize them into separate stories.

Shane’s love for writing started the moment she picked up a Nancy Drew book. At a young age, she began writing short stories, divulging in a variety of genres; from comedy and drama, to horror, and romance. Shane’s quite intrigued by the otherworldly or things otherwise deemed “impossible.” Well, in her opinion, people never really grow up, do they?

Unresisting is the first book in her new YA series of the same title. Prepare to join Natasha on her journey of self discovery as she learns to control her powers and use them for good, fighting all the bad along the way. Of course we can’t have a girl being alone throughout the story, there has to be some romance thrown in there. And Chace will definitely steal the hearts of every female reader.

The Giveaways
Shane is giving away a finished copy of Unresisting and she’s opening up the giveaway to international entries!
That would be Rafflecopter #1.

Scroll down to Rafflecopter #2 to enter to win Natasha’s lovely freshwater pearl bracelet if you’ve purchased a copy of Unresisting.
