End of the World Giveaway Hop

It’s possible that the ‘Preppers are in their bunkers already, which means the odds for winning the giveaways has increased exponentially. Of course, we may not be around to enjoy the spoils, right? Because it’s the…

Hosted by Kathy at I Am A Reader, Not A Writer and Jennifer at My Life With Books

(commence running around, panicking)

No? Yeah, me neither. Even though Snooki had a bestseller and a baby, The Brange and JustJen got engaged, Honey Boo Boo has her own show and Hostess.. (I need a moment). Well, I still prefer to think the Mayans were just a little disorganized and like me, forgot to flip a page or keep track of a leap year or something. I mean, I get along without a calendar just fine. I have several calendars and I still manage to not know what day it is. So I’m pretty sure we’ll all be here on the 22nd.

In that spirit of optimism, we’re going to give away your choice of two excellent, horrible apocalyptic books! The details first: The giveaway is open internationally, anyplace The Book Depository will ship to (continental US orders will ship via Amazon). Ebooks are also an option if you choose.

The Stand

The books:

My absolute, all-time, read-it-over-and-over favorite apocalyptic novel from the first time I picked it up has been The Stand, by Stephen King. As long as it is, I’ve still re-read it many times and it never gets old. It’s a classic and as far as I’m concerned, it should be required reading. I love this book so much – so the paperback (or ebook) copy is up for grabs.

Check out The Stand at Goodreads

The Darkest Minds

Of course there’s a good chance that nothing will happen so why not think positive and offer a book that’s on pre-order as the giveaway begins but will be out as it ends? Of course I can’t let things get out of hand and be too happy-happy, so it has to be another apocalyptic story, but at least this time, it’s a YA and so far it’s getting great reviews at Goodreads. A hardcover (or ebook) copy of The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken is the second option.

Just enter using the Rafflecopter form and after you finish here, make sure you scroll down and check out the giveaways and the other blogs on the hop. Good luck (in more ways than one, mwuahahahahaha). ;)

    thanks for the giveaway ^^

  7. amel armeliana says:

Well, I believe the world is going to end someday, but I don’t think it happens when I’m still living. So, I don’t prepare anything, except my faith :)

    Thanks for this giveaway.

  8. Gary Teitelman says:

No preparation except for maybe an extra case of beer in reserve !!

  9. I’m not a prepper, but I LOVE all this end of the world stuff. Call me weird, but the movies, the dystopian books, I love them all! I plan on being a fighter come the apocalypse! :D Thanks for thegiveaway!

  10. Not at all. And if it does, oh well. We’ll all be in the same boat.

    Thanks for the giveaway.

  12. nurmawati djuhawan says:

    i’m not a prepper…
    whatever will be..will be …
    thx 4 the giveaway :)

  13. No, not really!

I’ll just take it as it is:)

    Thank you:)

  14. No, not really a prepper ever since, what will happen, happens.

  15. Dita Škarste says:

Nope. Even if it happens (and eventually it will) there`s probably not very much we can do about that.

  16. Nope. What happens, happens. :)

  17. Crystal Young says:

No I am not but we always have canned goods and bottled water in our house.

  18. Yes I am interested in prepping. I watched preppers on Nat.

  19. No way — seems kind of crazy to me!

  20. Nope, I think it’s pretty crazy too :)

  21. Nope I am not a prepper.. a pantser. If the end of the world comes I hope to god I am at ground zero and wiped out instantaneously. I grew up in Mormon country and I knew lots and lots of people who were expecting the second coming any time and then they died with a food cellar stuffed full of expired food. Go figure.

  22. Not a prepper but I do love watching Doomsday Preppers and seeing what they think is necessary to have for the end of the world! :P

  23. im not, i dont believe in the end of the world!
    thanks for the books!

  24. As much as I love watching /reading apocalyptic movies and books, I don’t really believe it’ll happen, at least not in my lifetime so nope I am not a prepper. Thank you for the giveaway. :)

  25. Nope. Not at all.
    Thanks for the giveaway! :)

  26. The term ‘prepper has such negative connotations that I wouldn’t self-identify as one. But we do have bug-out bags loaded with end of the world gear (for general loss of power, chaos, etc., stuff like water purification tablets, waterproof matches, etc) by the door. And I have a zombie apocalypse plan. :)

  27. deanna_boocock says:

Nope. I don’t believe that the Mayans meant a true obliteration of life, I think they meant a renewal of life.

  28. Readsalot81 says:

*sigh* My family does it kind of half- *ss . Can I say that? We have bottled water, batteries, and all the shoes you could ever need, but that’s about it.

  29. I’d like to think of myself as a prepared person, but who can really be prepared for the end of the world? I think the only way I can only be best prepared is to be mindful of my spirituality. to live the best way possible in the moment—in case it’s the last.

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  30. Samantha D says:

The world isnt ending the Mayan calendar is circluar; therefore the circle is starting over (think of a clock striking midnight) its awesome bc instead of 24 hours like a clock its a 50 year long calendar. :) So ya, no end of the world……………….as an anthropology major this is getting really annoying. Just Discovery channel wanting to bump up their ratings.

    • I can’t imagine what they’ll have, but Discovery will find something to replace Doomsday Preppers with. lol TLC keeps finding crazy things. Remember when it was actually “The Learning Channel?”

On the positive side, you’ll get to be the one who can say, “I told you so,” to everyone who’s been bugging you? :D

  31. I’m not a prepper, but I like watching the show “Doomsday Preppers” with my sister. I think that’s what the show is called.

  32. I’m a last minute person. I feel the thrill every time. LOL

  33. Definitely not. The world isn’t ending.

  34. Jaime Lester says:

I am not. I do have guns though, so…….

  35. Nah, not really. Don’t really believe there is a specific day, but I guess we’ll just have to wait and see!

  36. Mary Preston says:

I’m not a ‘prepper’, but it’s actually not a bad idea.

  37. nope. not a prepper. i have faith that it won’t happen..

  38. Kristin@ Blood,Sweat and Books says:

I am to a point. We have bug out bags, are all kept up to date with latest survival techniques and I can make food a variety of ways without electricity in case of catastrophic power outages. Plus I have several contingency plans in case of zombies ;)

  39. Not reall. I love to read dystopians and apocaliptic books, but I’m not the type of person who plans everything

  40. Don’t think so! But if something like that would happen, I hope i’d be able to survive…

  41. I am not prepared, I don’t think I’ll last very long lol.

  42. Nope :)

  43. Not really, but I think I should be just in case of emergencies!

  44. Not at all!

  45. Not really, only on the humor side. However, my son is more than ready to take charge should something happen :) Thank you for your generous participation in this fun hop.

  46. Filia Oktarina says:

Nope, I am not a prepper at all.

  47. I’m not really a prepper :D But it’s funny to read about all the theories :D

  48. Not a prepper at all. The only thing that I keep for emergencies are candles for when there’s no electricity.

  49. No, not at all!

  50. Absolutely not, nor do I have interest in it, I just don’t believe the world will actually end!

  51. Caroline McMaster says:

Not really, but I’ll make sure I have a few things on hand, just in case :)

  52. Nope, not at all. I’ll let it take me by surprise! :P

  53. no i’m not…i prefer to hope everything will be fine (after all we were told so many time already that it was the end of the world and even if it was we couldn’t do anything about it)

  54. I’m not one…

  55. Traci Lynn Butler says:

We try to be prepared for emergencies

  56. Nope not at all

  57. Not really a prepper – but it crosses my mind – I PRAY.

  58. No, there’s always something you won’t be prepared for.

  59. Christina T says:

Nope, just going to spend the day wrapping presents!

  60. Dawna Newman says:

No I’m not a prepper, I mean if it is going to happen what can we do? I am just going chill with my family.

  61. It’s like that time that we thought the year 2000 was gonna be the end. This time it’s for 2012 with the Mayan calendar. I don’t think it’s gonna happen. I say just think of it as another day.

  62. I’m not a prepper :D . I don’t really think about that. I was a kid in 2000 and listened to every stupid think people said about the world ending back then. Well…we’re 12 years pars that and now talking about another end of the world…

  63. Yes. My whole family is. Haha! We have food supplies and toiletries that will last for months. It never hurts to be prepared. :-)

  64. I did consider preparing for the end of the world, but then I saw all these great giveaways and decided to enter those instead :) I really hope the world doesn’t end cause I’m hoping for some lovely books for christmas :)
Thanks so much for the lovely giveaway and happy holidays!

  65. Nope, not a prepper. I think I might just be the first to die. lalalalala

  66. Not a prepper since it’s quite hard to do it in my country but I DO watch Doomsday Preppers and think it’s cool!

  67. I would love to be a preper!

  68. I would probably be a prepper! Thanks!

  69. Nope, not so much.

  70. I am not. I never even think about it

  71. I’m not a prepper at all because when I make some plans, they don’t go swiftly anyway. So I just go with the flow and just decide when I’m in that situation.
    Thanks for the giveaway!

  72. Sharar Miah says:

Nope. Not into that stuff even a little bit. But, thanks anyway :D

  73. I have some supplies ready – water, etc. but don’t really consider myself a prepper. I love dystopian books though! Thanks for this amazing giveaway – I would love to win!

  74. Cordelia Fitzgerald says:

I’m religious…so I think that’s the only way you can prepare!

  75. I’m not really a prepper. I’m not busy with the whole end-of-the-world-thing. If the end is coming, there is not really anything I can do about it :p

  76. DeeDee Griffin says:

Not a prepper at all. I prefer to hope for the best!

  77. Not a prepper at all. Whatever happens, happens. I believe when it’s my time, it’s just my time.

  78. I couldn’t say one way or another.. Who Knows what is going to happen

  79. Nope, I don’t prep.

  80. I’m not a prepper but I find docos on it interesting to watch :)

  81. ThePixieSprinkles says:

My husband and I have talked about prepping (MRE’s, water tablets, packs, etc.) but we’ve yet to actually do it. It’s pretty expensive to get ready for the end of the world! lol We did watch some of that series Doomsday Preppers though. Those people are devoted! =)

  82. Megan Parsons says:

    No we aren’t preppers!

  83. Nah :) If the world ends what could I do?!

  84. Not really, if the world ends I know that no matter what I do I’ll be one of the first to go (luck just loves me that way).

  85. I am not a prepper and I think the people that are… they’re being ridiculous. I think that the Mayan’s belief of how the Earth starts a new cycle around the Solar System aka Earth’s 400 year cycle is the truth. I don’t think that the world is going to end.

  86. I’m not a “prepper” as in for the end of the world, but I do have a kit in both my house and car which contains emergency supplies as I live in Florida where I may have to evacuate.

    • A perfect idea! I have one in my car trunk too – for snow emergencies. It’s not anyplace close to the scale as having to evacuate, but it only took one slide off of the road in winter to remind me to pack the car with a kit before winter. :)

  87. No. I don’t think it’ll be the end of the world…yet ;) But if it so happens I’m wrong I’ll deal with it as it comes.

Thanks for the great giveaway! Great choices!

  88. Nope, I’m not… I don’t really think anything will happen… People wouldn’t be so calm if something was coming. Plus, I have books to receive, I’m not going anywhere.
Thanks for the great giveaway and for making it international!

  89. Lisa Vazquezanzua says:

No I’m not a ‘prepper, but after me and my boys had watched those Prepper shows, we all were starting to think about doing something. Not overboard like most of those on that show but do some things like stocking up on canned foods, water etc. If I had more money I would totally start being a prepper!!

  90. not a prepper, the length of my planning only consists of trying to figure out how to get through the next few days, it’s a crappy way to live when your always on the edge and can fall off at any moment, a world ending prophecy doesn’t concern me because it can already end at any moment

  91. Only to be right with God.

  92. No…for the both.

  93. April Holgate says:

I am not a prepper at all!

I forbid the world to end!! I have way too many books on my TBR list!!
Merry Book-mas to one and all!

    grapeapril75(AT)gmail.com

  94. Stephanie W. says:

Definitely not a prepper! But the whole end of the world idea scares the crap out of me! It always has. :(

  95. Nope to both!

  96. No, not a ‘prepper

  97. Natasha Areena says:

No, I’m not but I can understand why people do it.

  98. Bonnie Hilligoss says:

I’m not a big prepper, but we do have some staples and water on hand for emergencys.

  99. no! :)

  100. kimberly holgate says:

no i am the person up all night packing my bags for a flight
    kaholgate at ymail dot com

  101. Not at all :)
    Thank you for the giveaway!

And I made a little mistake, my facebook name is Cayce Fdreamer, not Cayce_23
    (that’s twitter) Sorry.

  102. Nope not really!I’m a do-everything-during-the-last-few-minutes kinda person! :P

  103. No, I’m the type who tries to ignore bad things and pretend nothing is wrong while I am freaking out on the inside :)

  104. We occasionally get snowed in or there is a flood or a fire, so we are prepped to some extent. When it comes to prepping for the end of the world – well that more skills than anything else, right? So we are volunteer fire and response personnel.

  105. Well, I do tend to stockpile necessities so if we were ever snowed in we’d be okay for a while. I don’t exactly have a bunker though ;)

  106. Nope :)

  107. Kind of intimidated by the word prepper

This is an awards-free blog; we appreciate the thought but we just don't have time to reciprocate. I heard a rumor that someone slid virtual chocolate under the door once and it was well-received.

Talk to me! I love to hear what you have to say and will comment back.
