Sunday Post (January 20, 2013)

Sunday Post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

It’s a chance to share news, recap events from the past week, showcase books and things we’ve received and share news about what’s coming up in the week ahead on our blog.

It’s my first Sunday post of the new year! I don’t want to go and jinx myself now, but we’re 20 days in and I’m still doing well on my resolution to be more organized. For me, this is amazing, especially because I’ve gone about it in a different way than I ever have before. I’m finally ahead on some scheduled reviews and working on clearing up some backlog – I can’t even tell you how good it feels to get up in the morning and know that even if I feel rotten and don’t get anything done, I have posts set to post for the next four or five days or more. So..go me!

I didn’t always enjoy the books I reviewed this week, but I must be in a good mood because I’m pretty happy about it because they were all books I’d looked forward to and was just glad to have gotten my hands on and tried.

  • Monday, I reviewed Lisa Schroeder’s Falling for You and loved it. I want her to write more like this one. Maybe not, I won’t be able to afford it.
  • Tuesday brought a cover reveal and giveaway of Laura Howard’s upcoming New Adult book, The Forgotten Ones, then my review of Brenna Yovanoff’s Paper Valentine, which I liked – it was very lazy summer retro-serial killer.
  • Wednesday was the big disappointment of the week, with my review of Gena Showalter’s Last Kiss Goodnight. It wasn’t up to her usual standards and just drab.
  • It was double the Rhiannon Paille covers on Thursday!
  • Friday was the start of the Dreaming of Books Giveaway Hop and hopefully I came up with at least one interesting thing to give away. I do try to be different. :D
  • Saturday I decided to test out a little novella review feature. The three I picked for its debut were a little all over the place, with one making me want to break out my HULKSMASH suit, one had me in love and with the other, I was a little confused. Story of my life, right?

Next week for review, I have an adorable Harlequin Kiss book called Hitched!, Forever My Girl and The Breakaway on the review schedule so far (I had to DNF Dr. Frankenstein’s Daughters, which I had planned too).

On to the haul!

Sunday Post 120

I received for review:
Dare You To (Pushing the Limits #3) by Katie McGarry
Stung by Bethany Wiggins
The Nightmare Affair by Mindee Arnett
None of the Regular Rules by Erin Downing from the author
Impulse (Jumper #3) by Steven Gould from Tor

I purchased:

Second Rate Chances by Holly Stephens
The Uninvited by Liz Jensen

From some super nice peeps:
I won a personalized autographed copy of Crimson Frost by Jennifer Estep from a giveaway from Heidi at Rainy Day Ramblings. Jennifer even threw in personalized autographed bookmarks from each of the other books in the series! I definitely squee’ed and scared my cat.

Emma D. in New Zealand, who is one of the nicest people in the #RAK program, sent me Silken Rapture by Beth Kery.

So I had a pretty awesome week overall. I kicked my flu bug, was nice and organized and am on my way to finally clearing up some of my backlog (*crossing fingers*).

How was your week? Leave me a link and I’ll come visit!

  1. Congrats on you becoming more organized! To me that’s a huge accomplishment, that I really need to get my a** in gear with, myself!!! Someday I won’t have to scramble with last minute postings… :P Look at all the pretties, you got! I totally have seen waaaay too much of The Nightmare Affair this weekend and am trying my best NOT to request it. It’s really hard to NOT click that request button, but I’m really trying to stick with my rule of being more selective w/requests.

Have a great week, doll! Enjoy, your goodies

    • I was forced into getting The Nightmare Affair, I swear! (tour) ;) If it helps at all, I got an email from the person at Tor handling the requests and she said they’ve been completely swamped, so who knows if they’ll have any left. I’m with you on being more selective though – I have enough in my TBR pile!

I knew I jinxed myself, btw. I don’t feel like reading a thing today. lol Hey, if I can get organized, anyone can do eeet! We’ll have to make a pinky-swear pact one of these days to get a couple of weeks ahead so we can take a virtual vacation and read nothing but books with half-naked men on the cover that are completely inappropriate for us to review. :D

  2. Awesome haul. I am so excited fro Dare To You and A nightmare Affair to be out. Enjoy them.

  3. Glad you are feeling better and are getting caught up! I have been trying to schedule out at least a week…some weeks I succeed..others not so much!

  4. Nice to see you posting this week and oh my goodness I am drooling over your haul…so many loving covers that are calling to me! The Sunday Post

  5. Awesome haul! I can’t wait to get my hands on Dare You To.

    Happy reading!

  6. What an awesome book week you had this week! I am jealous! I have to go check out Netgalley and get Dare to You.
I am glad you kicked the flu. Its something terrible around here too. I am seeing ppl wearing face masks in hospitals/doctors offices. Phew. I am avoiding all places until its calmed a bit.
Ill def be back later to go over last weeks posts. You got some good ones listed.
Have a great rest of the weekend and early next week :)
    What’s on Bella’s Shelf?

  7. Yay – go you! High five for being organized. Lots of good books! I don’t think I can be blamed for too many of those. :D

  8. I need to check out the Night Affair. Can’t wait to hear what you think! I hope you enjoy your haul!!

    MY SUNDAY POST

  9. I’m glad you’re feeling better and congrats on being more organized. Organization is always one of my downfalls. Have a great week.

  10. Everyone’s comments on Last Kiss Goodnight have me not wanting to read it, I think I’ve moved it down the TBR list. Congrats on the Jennifer Estep win! That would be so great!

  11. My 2013 goal of organizing better using Evernote has been a big epic fail so far but there’s still time!

However, my goal of running 5K is right on track. I’m now running 25 minutes 3 times a week without falling over when I’m done. Two more weeks and I should be up to 30 – my final goal.

I hope you enjoy Dare You To. I liked PtL more but I still enjoyed this one.

This is an awards-free blog; we appreciate the thought but we just don't have time to reciprocate. I heard a rumor that someone slid virtual chocolate under the door once and it was well-received.

Talk to me! I love to hear what you have to say and will comment back.
