Tell Me Something Tuesday (2)

RDR TST

Tell Me Something Tuesday is a fun weekly meme hosted by Heidi at Rainy Day Ramblings that gives bloggers a chance to chat about everything from books to social issues and get to know each other better. It’s a big ‘ol group effort meme, so anyone who has an idea for a topic is encouraged to either email Heidi or leave a comment during the week’s stop.

This week’s question is sticking to the Fiery Hot Reads for Icy Cold Nights theme that we had last week and fits the ongoing hop:

What are some of your favorite romantic movies?

I’m so going to get in trouble for this one. I don’t watch a lot of movies. I hate sitting still for two hours to have someone else tell me a story in pictures when I could be reading one and filling in the blanks myself, so most of my favorite movies are from a loooong time ago and not a lot of them are romantic.

I have one. I watch it every time I can find it though, so it’s special! It’s from 1939, a black and white (don’t you dare watch the colorized version) starring Bette Davis and George Brent, called Dark Victory. It’s about a foolish, sort of obnoxious socialite who’s diagnosed with a brain tumor. Despite themselves, she and her doctor fall in love, get married and move out to a nice country house. I cry my eyes out every time at the ending – just a a couple of lines, a little kiss, a laugh with Brent and one more scene before it fades to black and I’m a puddle of mush. If you like old movies, you have to find this one!

  1. Hmm, I’m not a big fan of watching movies, I like you prefer to be reading ;) a romance film I did quite enjoy was Robin Hood and the Prince of Thieves with Kevin Costner, I can’t remember watching (or any being memorable) more recently

    • That was a good one (I do remember it!), especially for the Bryan Adams/Sting/Rod Stewart theme song and of course the most romantic line, when Robin rushes up to Marian and tells her, “I would die for you,” right before he lays a big kiss on her. He even does the face holding thing when he kisses her. swoooon

  2. I do not like colorized versions either and I know this movie…and yeah I cry buckets at the end!

  3. I am sorry the linky wasn’t working this morning. I have it fixed now. So lame. I don’t think I have seen this one. I must go google it now. So glad you loved Somewhere in Time as well. I haven’t watched it in a long time. I should dig it out. Thanks for being a part of TMST. I will shoot you an email in a bit about the NA TMST.

  4. I love black and white movies… even silent films. And Bette Davis is one of my most favorite actresses. That’s saying a lot because I like so few of them. Can’t believe you didn’t mention a Bana movie!

    • 1. The Bana shouldn’t be with anyone but me, therefore those movies are forbidden.

The only two that would be up for consideration:

      2. He dies in The Time Traveler’s Wife, so that movie is forbidden.
      3. He dies in Troy, so that movie is forbidden.

Nope, no Bana movie. :D Now when we get to sexay movies, I’ll have a list plus exhibits!

This is an awards-free blog; we appreciate the thought but we just don't have time to reciprocate. I heard a rumor that someone slid virtual chocolate under the door once and it was well-received.

Talk to me! I love to hear what you have to say and will comment back.
