Top 10 of 2012: Best Books

ttfinal2

I’m ending my Top 10 of 2012 lists with my biggest recommendations for the year. These were the new releases of the year that I want to encourage anyone I can into reading and the authors that I’m going to be watching next year. I have a list of honorable mentions, including Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry, Ghost Planet by Sharon Fisher, Romeo Redeemed by Stacey Jay and Oracle’s Moon by Thea Harrison – well, more than that but I could go on a long time. I have a lot of books in my TBR pile that fellow bloggers and friends have loved, so the beginning of next year looks really good too – I can’t wait to attack my pile of books when I have a chance!

top101

About Last Night by Ruthie Knox
Easy by Tammara Webber
Keeping Secret (Secret McQueen #4) by Sierra Dean
Loss (The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse #3) by Jackie Morse Kessler

top102

Lothaire (Immortals After Dark #12) by Kresley Cole
Masque of the Red Death (Masque of the Red Death #1) by Bethany Griffin
The Duke’s Perfect Wife (Highland Pleasures #4) by Jennifer Ashley
The Hallowed Ones (The Hallowed Ones #1) by Laura Bickle

top103

‘Twas the Night After Christmas (Hellions of Halstead Hall #6) by Sabrina Jeffries
Whispers at Moonrise (Shadow Falls #4) by C.C. Hunter

I’ve seen quite a few of your lists already while I’ve been surfing around this year but I’d love to hear from you about what your favorites were! If you have end of the year posts, leave your link or comment about when it’ll run so other visitors can come see you. :)

  1. I really must read Masque of the red death :) and The hallowed ones sound great as well. Some of the best books for me: Tiger Lily, The immortal rules, Throne of glass and The girl of fire and thorns.

    • Hey, Mel!! <3 Those are both so good – The Hallowed Ones especially, it was completely not what I expected and I want to kiss Laura Bickle because she decided to write a second book. ;)

I definitely want to get to Throne of Glass and The Girl of Fire and Thorns as soon as I can. I was so bummed that I didn’t have time this year, they had such good reviews – I’m glad you loved them! I’m so afraid to read Tiger Lily though – obviously we know how it ends and I’m afraid my heart will get broken. I already cry my way through books. lol

  2. Kristin at MyParaHangover says:

I love these lists because I get so many names of books! Case in point, I just added “About Last Night” – I had seen it before but now that I’ve seen it on your Best list, well…. SOLD!!!!

I also have the first Shadow Falls already so I may read that one sooner!! “Easy” I’ve seen on a lot of lists this week – I should see if that’s at the library.

    • I think you’ll love About Last Night – it’s so cute and hot. Nev is beyond gorgeous. I just re-read it the other day. It’s horrible for my schedule, but coming up with all of these lists meant I got lost re-reading everything once I remembered how much I loved stuff.

Easy is so, so sexy in a slow build-up, getting-to-know-you kind of way. Both male characters (no love triangle though) have something that gets to the heroine and it’s really romantic but in a smart way. Bonus that it counts toward the NA Challenge!

  3. That reminds me! I need to read Loss. I love that series.

I loved The Hallowed Ones. It’s hard to surprise me because I read so much now but that book did.

    • Loss was so much more than I thought it would be – I wasn’t expecting much out of it, to be honest since I’m not really into “boy” books. I have Death’s book in my hot little hands already and it’s all I can do not to just toss my “work” TBR pile into the corner and open it. I made myself promise not to though. :)

I bought The Chocolate Kiss this morning, based on your awesome review!! I can’t wait to start it – I’m making that a “work” book since it has chocolate and screams to be reviewed by me. lol

  4. Well, take about strange, I’ve not read a single book on your list. Good news is, I now have a great selection to add to my ever growing TBR list on GR. I’ve been curious about Easy, seen many favorable review. My biggest problem is I don’t really read contemporary book so much any more. I’ve always wanted to start the Shadow Falls series, just haven’t made myself pick up book one yet. Oh and I bought The Masque of Red Death on a great kindle deal a while back. That one does sound REALLY good to me.

    • I think in 2011, I was reading paranormals and urban fantasy and almost no contemporary! So I’m not at all surprised that I would have a list that had books no one had read. :D I’ve come across a couple of lists that only had a book or two on them that I’d read, the rest I’d never heard of, but I found lots to go look at.

I love the entire Shadow Falls series and while it makes me sad that it’s ending in 2013 with one more book, it’s nice that there’s an end point to it so you know that the whole series is out and you can read it quickly if you want to tear through it. Masque of the Red Death is so steampunk/gothic/dystopian-ish/ – it was just really good. Hard to even describe all of the good stuff that came together in it. :D BEWARE THE TWIST. lol

  5. Oh I need to read Easy. And I totally second the Hallowed Ones recommendation!

Happy New Year, Barbara & Cait!

    • Since I have but haven’t read about a half-dozen books you recommended, I’m not going to leap on you about not having read Easy yet. ;) I can’t wait until the sequel to The Hallowed Ones comes out – that was such a shocker of a book, I had no idea I was going to love it so much.

This is an awards-free blog; we appreciate the thought but we just don't have time to reciprocate. I heard a rumor that someone slid virtual chocolate under the door once and it was well-received.

Talk to me! I love to hear what you have to say and will comment back.
