Top 10 of 2012: Cover Love

ttfinal2

There’s no love like cover love and I’m a fool for it. The quality of a cover has to be something sweet to grab the reader’s eye and interest them enough to looking inside and this year, it was candy, candy, candy. Here are the best of those that made me take a second look.

Crewel by Gennifer Albin
Enchanted by Alethea Kontis
Masque of the Red Death by Bethany Griffin
Incarnation by Emma Cornwall
Ironskin by Tina Connolly
Seraphina by Rachel Hartman
Reaping Me Softly by Kate Evangelista
Venom by Fiona Paul
Until I Die by Amy Plum
Undone by Lila DiPasqua

I semi-cheated with my covers – I have all of them but haven’t read a few yet. It’s the story of my reading life!

  1. I see a lot of covers w/ dresses on them! Great choices I really loved Seraphina and Incarnations covers!

  2. This is a gorgeous collage of covers. Love it! Masque of the Red Death is amazing.

  3. I think my favorite is Reaping Me Softly.

  4. You seem to have a thing for covers with girls with dresses on them! :P
Still, I agree that they are all gorgeous except for the last one! The models’ poses are just too weird!

    • I’m getting worried about myself! I keep thinking I’m moving on to something else, then when I assemble my list, it’s all dresses, dresses, dresses! lol Don’t forget the fancy script – have to have that. I’m like Pavlov’s dogs with that stuff. That last pose does look really uncomfortable, doesn’t it? The models had to be on stools to be able to hold that one.

I predict no NA covers will be on this list next year since they’re nearly all just pictures, shoulders-up, of a couple making out. :D

  5. I want that dress from the cover of Enchanted SO BAD. I’m not even joking. I love LOVE it.

    • It’s so, so pretty, isn’t it? I just love that one, especially the bottom of it – it looks so floaty. It’s one of the few fantasy dresses I’ve seen on a cover that I can actually picture existing in a real life setting. Now I’m going to sit here and droool over the covers some more. :P

  6. Ooo the cover whore in my agrees with your picks!

  7. APPLAUSE and accolades! Great choices! And what a variety, too… As an author, I 100% agree: a cover MUST shout— the book itself may be more than amazing, the author may be stellar, too. But if that cover doesn’t catch the reader’s eye and make ‘em want to look inside, that book won’t sell. Not to mention the fact that the cover speaks to the professionalism of the work and gives a sneak peek as to the *vibe* of the story. I really love that you did this compilation… love your choices, too!

    • Hi JoLynne! I’m always fighting against myself about covers and picking books just because I love them, but they’re definitely what grabs me first and I’m just giving in to it and admitting my weakness. When I browsing, if the cover catches my eye, I’ll click on it and read the synopsis and then decide if I want to add it to my wishlist or go right to Amazon and stick it on my Wishlist or buy it there. I have a very OCD process to go through and it all starts with that cover! lol

This is an awards-free blog; we appreciate the thought but we just don't have time to reciprocate. I heard a rumor that someone slid virtual chocolate under the door once and it was well-received.

Talk to me! I love to hear what you have to say and will comment back.
